The Faintest Glimmer is all You Need!

I HOPE the chute opens!

I HOPE the chute opens!

Hope.    I was speaking with one of my long-term patients the other day and was astounded at her strength, attitude and resiliancy in dealing with the serious life-threatening health situations of both her children and grandchildren [and all at once].   The only thing that was keeping her together was hope...and just a sliver of that.   One of the chapters in Lessons From Everest deals with the incredible power of HOPE.  There was a stretch of time in both 2007 and 2008  [Everest climb] that I had precious little of that commodity and it was pure suffering and misery 24 hours/day.  I decided to continue the climb at a particularly dark time  when I had NO energy and the self-doubt was running amok, only because I possesed just the tiniest glimmer of hope for a better day.  It turned out that that was all I needed.
